Many motor vehicle accidents occur each year on America’s roads. A serious head-on collision occurred on Interstate 43 between two trucks recently. According to the police report, a truck was on the northbound side of the interstate highway when another truck on the southbound side crossed over the median and crashed into the truck on the other side.
According to an eye witness, authorities blocked off the highway after the crash occurred and other cars were getting off as soon as they were able to do so. The eyewitness also noticed that there was some smoke in the air in the direction of the accident. People were apparently speculating about whether the cable barriers might have been able to prevent the collision from happening. Sadly, both truck drivers involved were killed in the accident.
The cable barriers
The cable barriers on that interstate highway run along the median and they end approximately 13 miles north of Milwaukee. Those barriers have been in place since 2005 and they were installed then because there had been several crossover accidents that ended tragically. Many people in that area feel that installing additional barriers may help to prevent or minimize the number of serious accidents that may occur.
It wouldn’t hurt and it may end up helping
If the state does end up installing more barriers along the Interstate, in the worst-case scenario, it would not change the situation. In the best-case scenario, the barriers may save lives and other sad repercussions as a result of accidents. According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), adding barriers is an ongoing project and it is the intention of the DOT to continue to install new barriers in order to keep people on the road as safe as possible into the future.
